Interesting Fact:
There are officially two stories on how Fenech-Soler got its name. The first states that the band is named after bass player Daniel Soler (his given name is Daniel Francis Fenech-Soler). The second claims they chose the name because “nothing else would come up on [a] Google search.” I’m guessing it’s a combination of both.
About this Band:
I first discovered Fenech-Soler last fall when I saw the video for their single Lies. (You can view this below.) Since I didn’t have a site back then, I am now extremely excited to talk about this band. When I first listened to Lies I knew I had found something pretty amazing because my first instinct, after watching their awesome video, was to play the song again and get up and dance (which I did). I’m not the only person dancing my ass off to their music. Fenech-Soler is becoming well known, on both sides of the Atlantic, for their combination of “slick” electronic, club dance, glam rock tunes and remixes.
Fenech-Soler originally formed in the English town of King Cliffe when two brothers, Ben and Ross Duffy, and their friend, Daniel Soler, decided to form a band. As one of their members said, “It started with us just messing with the computer and now it’s actually turned into something.” Later they added Andy Lindsay on drums. Ben and Ross Duffy come from a music family. Their father toured the US during the 70s and 80s with a country and blue grass band.
Fenech-Soler is inspired by music from the 70s and 80s, through it’s quite a different style. When interviewed by Spinner.com prior to performing at SXSW this year, front man Ben Duffy cited The Whispers and George Bensen as influences. According to Groove Effect, other inspirations also include Daft Punk, Hot Chip, The Chemical Brothers, The Neptunes, Timbaland.
In April, Fenech-Soler released their most recent single Stop and Stare. (You can watch the video below, and also download a remix for free here). The band is also working on a full length album in addition to the current UK tour.
